SatisfactionSatisfaction
It is very important to get an indication as to the manner in which the individual experiences satisfaction with his transactions in his environment. Some analysts refer to happiness as the subjective component of optimal functioning, and to satisfaction as the more intellectual or cognitive component of optimal functioning (cf. Diener 1984; Devantier 1995). This notion is not supported throughout the literature on satisfaction, and most analysts refer to happiness and satisfaction as similar in meaning. It is also recognized that the concept refers to subjective appraisals and cognitive judgments on the quality of life in general.
To prevent any kind of misinterpretation of the construct, we have decided to name the construct “satisfaction” and not “happiness”. Satisfaction with life as a whole is really what is meant with this construct. A formal Definition of Satisfaction The following definition of satisfaction has been formulated: "Satisfaction is the unique expression of an individual as to the feelings of well-being he attaches to his life. These feelings have no specific "objective" roots, but are characterized by the unique interaction of the individual with his environment. It represents an overall judgment of a person’s life satisfaction that has to do with a person’s cognition and a person’s affect". Attributes that relate to high Satisfaction oriented Individuals
