Generativity in contrast with Stagnation (Synthesis: thoughtfulness)Generativity in contrast with Stagnation (Synthesis: Thoughtfulness)
This stage covers the greatest part of adulthood (± 35 - 60 years). When the previous crisis has been handled successfully, the nest task is to obtain a feeling of generativity and prevent a feeling of stagnation and self-centredness. Generativity is a wide concept which includes productivity, creativity and transfer of culture. People who obtain generativity and thoughtfulness, are in one way or another, busy with life-enrichment for themselves and others. This can take place in different ways, through educating children (the next generation), by producing meaningful work, or by creating cultural goods. Generativity assumes belief in the meaningfulness of life, the value of the human species and the future of mankind. |
